📍 Cornudella de Montsant
A reservoir on the Siurana river ringed by the Montsant and Prades ranges, with the village of Siurana perched above.
Cornudella de Montsant is one of the largest and liveliest towns of the inland Priorat and the gateway to the Serra de Montsant Natural Park and to the village of Siurana. Documented since 1190 under the name Cornutella, it now has around a thousand inhabitants, spread across the main settlement and the hamlets of Siurana and Albarca, within a municipal area that is the largest in the whole comarca.
Its old town keeps noble houses and the parish church of Santa Maria, in Renaissance style, and it holds the modernist cooperative winery by Cèsar Martinell (1919-1922), a disciple of Gaudí and one of the so-called "wine cathedrals". On the outskirts stands the hermitage of Sant Joan del Codolar, in a strikingly beautiful setting, and the Peris-Aragonès Museum, a private collection visited by prior appointment.
It is a common base for hiking and climbing, and the Siurana reservoir nearby is also used for water sports such as kayaking and canoeing.
