Celler Cooperatiu de Cornudella de Montsant

The Celler Cooperatiu de Cornudella de Montsant was founded in 1919 as an association of more than eighty local farmers. Its cellar building was designed by architect César Martinell, a student of Antoni Gaudí, and belongs to the group of so-called "wine cathedrals" Martinell built for agricultural cooperatives across Catalonia.

The winery makes wine from indigenous varieties such as Garnatxa and Carinyena, grown in the region's slate (llicorella) soils, and has also revived Macabeu, a white variety that had almost disappeared locally. Under the Castell de Siurana brand it produces red, rosé and white wines, as well as a vermouth, a mistela and a young vi novell, all under the D.O. Montsant designation.

The cooperative offers guided visits to its facilities with explanations of the winemaking process and guided tastings, for individuals and groups alike, and runs a shop open to the public in Cornudella de Montsant.
