Fonda El Recó

📍 Cornudella de Montsant

Website ↗

Fonda El Recó is a historic inn in Cornudella de Montsant —with the date 1794 on its façade— that once served merchants travelling between Lleida and Tarragona. The Franquet family acquired it in 1946 and it is now run by the fourth generation, with Jordi Estivill Franquet in the kitchen. Its old-style dining room serves cannelloni, sweet and spicy snails, cod with charcoal oil, rabbit stew with Montsant herbs, oxtail in Miró vermouth, and the house dish called "Pijama".

They offer two fixed-price midday menus: the "Menú 1794" (named after the date on the façade), with two- or three-course options plus dessert, and the "Menú Brases". Both include bread, water and wine —the cellar favors Flor d'Englora, DO Catalunya. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday at midday (until 3:30pm on weekdays, until 4pm on weekends), closed Mondays and at Christmas; rural apartments are also available on-site.
