Marçà: what to see, where to eat and wineries

Marçà is a village in the southern Priorat, minutes south of Falset, within DO Montsant. It has a population of around 620, split between the main village and the hamlets of les Comes and el Verinxell. It keeps the church of Santa Maria, mid-18th-century neoclassical and Baroque, with a 1930 bell tower housing four clocks. The village has medieval origins — a castle is documented from the 9th century and the parish is mentioned in a papal document of 1154 — and an agricultural cooperative founded in 1936, now merged with Falset's (since 1998).

In its municipal area rises la Miloquera, a 399 m hill riddled with karstic potholes and prehistoric remains, along with springs such as Font dels Tres Batlles and Font de la Palma. The Lula Pérez-MarçàGiné Museum, opened in 1997 in an 1891 building at Carrer De Dalt 58, displays terracotta works by sculptor MarçàGiné, paintings by Josep Sancho Piqué, and Roman archaeological material; it opens Sundays 11:30am-1:30pm and on weekdays by appointment (tel. +34 663 196 486).

The municipal area has several wineries (Celler Vermunver, Clos Mesorah, Josep Grau Viticultors, Acústic Celler) and is a starting point for hiking routes, such as the Camí Ramader de les Taules cattle track, as well as four cycling itineraries connecting it to Falset, Bellmunt, and Capçanes.
