Elviwines is a family-run winery based in Marçà, at the heart of the DO Montsant appellation, founded in 2002 by Dr. Moisés (Moshe) Cohen, an agricultural engineer trained at the Technion in Haifa, and his wife Ana Cohen, a sommelier with a background in art history. The winery presents itself as the only one in Spain producing its entire output under kosher supervision (Orthodox Union certification), running a project that blends the region's winemaking tradition with the family's Sephardic heritage.
Its flagship project in Montsant is Clos Mesorah, a small estate of around 3 hectares that preserves plots of vines over 90 years old, farmed under ecological principles, yielding roughly 16,000 bottles a year. From it come wines such as Clos Mesorah, Clos Mesorah Garnatxa and Sublim, made with varieties including Garnacha. In parallel, under the EL26 label the family also produces wines from Priorat, and the catalogue is rounded out by other lines such as Makor, Adar, Ness, Clásico and Matí.
The winery offers guided vineyard visits and tastings (of 3 to 8 wines), with roughly two-hour sessions for groups of 2 to 15 people and prices generally ranging from 45 to 95 euros per person; visits are available in Catalan, Spanish, English, French or Hebrew and include explanations of the family's Sephardic history and the kosher winemaking process.
