El Cairat is a family restaurant in Falset's old town, running since 1984 — when it opened as a granja-cafeteria — and turned into a restaurant in 1992. It was founded by Juli and Mercè Pellejà; since Juli's death in 2011, Mercè has continued running it, keeping the house's original spirit.
The cooking is Mediterranean and Catalan with a personal touch, made with local produce: extra virgin olive oil from the area and an extensive wine list from DOQ Priorat and DO Montsant. The dining room seats 24; on weekdays it offers a fixed-price lunch menu, while weekends and holidays are à la carte, and dinners are offered by advance reservation only, for a minimum of six people.
The weekday lunch menu is priced at €20 (VAT included), and there is also a themed olive-oil menu at €35. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and takes an annual break from 20 January to 20 February, as well as 25-26 December and the evening of 31 December.
