Vinyes d’en Gabriel

Grandfather Joan Rofes planted the first vines of Casa Gabriel in Darmós (Tivissa) more than one hundred and fifty years ago, already farming the land without chemical products and following organic practices long before they became fashionable. The family kept up this approach across four generations, until winemaker Josep Mª Anguera modernized the winery and gave it its current name, Vinyes d'en Gabriel.
The vineyards, some with vines over eighty years old, are planted with Carinyena (Samsó), Garnatxa (Grenache) and Syrah on the area's clay and white soils, within DO Montsant. Wines include the L'Heravi range (Jove, Criança, Selecció and Rosé) and Mans de Samsó, aiming to be honest, expressive and authentic; the winery also factors lunar cycles into growing and winemaking, which has earned its wines the label of "lunar wines".
The winery opens for wine tourism on Friday afternoons and Saturday and Sunday mornings (12 euros per person), with a walk and tasting at the Les Rovires vineyard, a short cellar tour and a tasting of at least three wines. As winemaker Josep Mª Anguera puts it: "We bottle a family's excitement."
