Venus La Universal is the personal project launched in 1999 by winemaker Sara Pérez Ovejero in Falset, within DO Montsant, in partnership with René Barbier. Pérez, daughter of the founders of the Mas Martinet winery in Priorat, wanted a project of her own, free from market demands, to explore the terroir of Falset and la Morera de Montsant using old vines in the Bellvisos plot (Martinet, Mogador, Vinya del Vuit), over ten hectares farmed organically.
The winery produces Venus (Carignan, Grenache and Syrah) and Dido (Grenache, aged in clay amphorae), as well as a Dido Blanc (white Grenache, Macabeu and Cartoixà) and a Venus de Cartoixà made from that native old-vine variety. It also takes part in the cooperative Venus de la Figuera project, using high-altitude Grenache from the village of La Figuera. The team champions viticulture that respects both the land and the people who work it, and maintains close relationships with partner growers.
The winery offers two-hour wine-tourism visits combining a vineyard walk with a tasting of four wines in the tasting room, Monday to Friday at 11am and 3pm, and Saturdays at 11am by prior reservation.
