Estones – Vins de Mas Sersal was founded in 2008 in Falset, at the heart of DO Montsant, by winemaker Salvi Moliner and sommelier Sergi Montalà, two professionals with long careers in the wine industry who set out on their own project to craft wines carrying a personal stamp, rooted in this corner of Catalonia's more than two-thousand-year winemaking tradition.
The winery works mainly with grenache and carignan from old local vines — including plots near Falset and Els Guiamets — ageing the wines for around thirteen months in first- and second-year French and American oak barrels. The stated philosophy of the project is one of balance, where fruit is meant to prevail over wood rather than the reverse.
Beyond Montsant, Estones also makes wine in Batea, within DO Terra Alta, using white grenache and Pedro Ximénez. The project maintains a distinctive collaboration with musician David Carabén, of the band Mishima, adding a poetic and musical dimension to the wine.
