A visit to the Burgos-Porta winery in Poboleda

Celler Burgos Porta makes organic wines from the DOQ Priorat appellation at Mas Sinen, a slate-stone farmhouse on the outskirts of Poboleda.
The owners, Conxita and Salvador, restored the farmhouse —which keeps its original three-storey building— and built an underground cellar covered by more than a metre of earth and topped with a vaulted ceiling, where the barrels and bottles rest at a controlled temperature so the wine ages slowly and well.
The ground floor holds the aluminium vats where winemaking begins; the upper floor houses a tasting room with views over the vineyards and the surroundings of the farmhouse. Their wines are organically produced, with no fertilisers or chemical components, and carry the organic-wine label.
