Torres Priorat is not a winery with its own doors open to visitors in the appellation, but rather the Priorat arm of Familia Torres, the large wine group headquartered in Vilafranca del Penedès. In the mid-1990s the family planted vineyards in Porrera and El Lloar on llicorella slate soils, then waited over a decade before bottling wine from them, letting the vines become established.
Those vineyards yield two wines: Salmos, made from Cariñena and Garnacha Tinta grown on the La Giberga plot in Porrera and dedicated to the Carthusian monks who introduced viticulture to the region in 1194, and Perpetual, a more concentrated wine made from 80-to-100-year-old Cariñena and Garnacha Tinta vines spread across five Priorat municipalities (El Lloar, Porrera, Torroja, El Molar and Bellmunt), blending cooler and warmer sites.
Both wines have earned critical recognition - Perpetual scored 96 points at Decanter for the 2019 vintage, and Salmos was named Best in Show Priorat at Mundus Vini for its 2019 vintage - and are sold through Familia Torres' online shop and select retailers.
