Domini de la Cartoixa — Clos Galena

Clos Galena, the commercial brand of the winery Domini de la Cartoixa, was founded in 1999 in El Molar by pharmacist and oenologist Miguel Pérez, together with his wife Merche Dalmau and oenologist Toni Coca; the first wine reached the market in 2002. The name "Domini de la Cartoixa" recalls that the land once belonged to the Carthusian monks of Escaladei during the Middle Ages, while "Galena" takes its name from the mineral historically mined in Priorat. Miguel Pérez died of cancer in 2013, and Merche Dalmau has since carried on the project together with their daughter Cristina Pérez, oenologist Toni Coca, and viticulturist Enric Amorós.
The estate farms close to 30 hectares of vineyard, grown from an initial 11, planted with Garnacha, Cariñena, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon and worked organically since the winery's beginnings. Its wines include Galena, Clos Galena, and the Formiga range (Formiga de Seda and Formiga de Vellut), the latter known for having been served at the 2017 Nobel Prize banquet, the first time a Catalan wine was chosen for the occasion. Since 2010 the winery has also run an "Art & Wine" project featuring wine boxes decorated by artists.
