Cal Grau is a winery project launched in 2000 at Finca la Solana, between el Molar and el Lloar, within DOQ Priorat. It belongs to Compañía de Vinos Iberian, the Osborne family's wine group, which also owns estates in Ribera del Duero and Toro. The property covers 42 hectares, 22 of which are vineyard, planted on terraces over slate (llicorella) soils at the foot of the Montsant range.
The vineyards combine the native varieties Grenache and Carignan with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, managed according to each plot's altitude, soil and orientation. Grapes ferment separately by plot in small tanks, and the wine ages in the "Cava de Crianza," an underground cellar, in 300-litre French oak barrels, before the final blends are set through comparative tastings.
Three wines come out of this process: Petit Agnés, a young, fruity wine aged four months; Clos Badaceli, a Grenache aged 14 months in new French oak and named after a nearby mountain; and Les Ones, a limited-production Samsó/Carignan bottled only in exceptional vintages. Clos Badaceli 2018 won the award for best aged red wine at Vinari 2024.
