De Muller is a winery founded in 1851 by Augusto de Muller y Ruinart de Brimont, from an Alsatian winemaking family who recognized the wine-growing potential of the Tarragona area. For four generations the business stayed in the hands of the De Muller family, known above all for producing sacramental (mass) wine: in 1925 they installed Spain's first industrial refrigeration chamber for that specialty, and became suppliers to the Holy See from Pius X to John XXIII. Since 1995 the winery has belonged to the Martorell family.
In Priorat, De Muller makes its wines at the Mas de les Pusses estate in el Molar: a property of about 34 hectares with a capacity of around 5,000 hectolitres, and one of the first wineries to bottle Priorat wine. There they grow varieties such as Garnacha, Garnacha Peluda, Cariñena, Syrah and Merlot, used for wines including Priorat Les Pusses Crianza, Priorat Cariñena, Legítim and Lo Cabaló Reserva. The wines can be bought directly at the el Molar winery.
