Celler Sui Generis is a family project founded in 2004 by three people: Marie-Amélie Ponce, her husband Jordi González, and her uncle Philippe Jobert. They farm around 6.5 hectares of vines split between El Masroig (the Coma de Calderers plot) and els Guiamets (Vinya Vella and Aubaga), within DO Montsant, on poor, clay-limestone soils that force the vines to root deep.
The dominant varieties are Carignan (Samsó) and red Grenache, from old vines several decades old that yield sparingly. The vineyard is farmed with environmentally conscious practices: no herbicides or pesticides, and only minimal treatments (copper against mildew, sulphur) when weather requires it, though the estate is not certified organic.
They produce young and aged (crianza) red wines under the Sui Generis name, along with a distinctive product, Sui, a soft and delicate white sparkling wine with golden, silver or cherry-red glints, presented in a bottle with an LED-lit base. The winery also runs rural tourism accommodation at Mas de l'Aleix, with three rental houses (Mas 1, 2 and 3), in Renau.
