The church of Sant Miquel is the architectural jewel of Torroja del Priorat: a Baroque temple built between 1766 and 1767 and inaugurated on the feast of Saint Michael in 1767. It has a rectangular three-nave floor plan without a transept and a polygonal apse, with a round-arched doorway, an empty niche, and a triangular pediment with volutes on its façade, plus an octagonal bell tower at the entrance. Much of its original Baroque altarpieces and furnishings were lost in 1936.
Its main draw is the organ built in 1799 by Jean-Pierre Cavaillé, a member of an Occitan family of organ builders (ancestors of the Cavaillé-Coll dynasty), possibly one of his last works. It is one of Catalonia's historic organs, in a hybrid Franco-Catalan style, which was saved and later restored and is still played each summer as part of Catalonia's organ season.
