Ferrer Bobet was founded in 2002 by Sergi Ferrer-Salat, a businessman and wine enthusiast who also founded Barcelona's Monvínic wine bar, and by winemaker Raül Bobet, former technical director at Bodegas Torres and also behind the Castell d'Encús project in the Pyrenees. The first wines were bottled in 2008 from the 2005 vintage. The winery sits on the T-740 road linking Falset and Porrera, in the heart of DOQ Priorat.
The estate covers 70 hectares, of which only 15 are under vine, on slate (llicorella) slopes farmed organically. Old-vine Grenache and Carignan, some from centenary vines, grow alongside international varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier and Roussanne, planted in 2005.
The flagship wines are Vinyes Velles, a Grenache-Carignan blend, and Selecció Especial Vinyes Velles, a varietal Carignan from centenary vines; the winery also produces a straw wine (vi de palla) long-aged in oak. Guided tours with tastings are offered (such as "Barrels & Aromas" and "From Vine to Glass"), though there is currently no restaurant or accommodation on site.
