Celler Sabaté is a family-run winery in la Vilella Baixa founded in 1910 by Jaume Sabaté Alentorn, who began marketing wines the family already produced. In 1927 he acquired the La Plantadeta estate near the village, which remains the winery's main property today. The family is now in its fourth generation: Jaume Sabaté Rodríguez runs the winery today with his father's support, blending contemporary techniques with ancestral vineyard knowledge, following the modernization carried out by the third generation (Jaume Sabaté Mestre) between 1980 and 1990, which shifted the business from bulk sales to estate bottling.
The winery grows red Grenache and Carignan, and white Grenache and Muscat for its white wines, in vineyards at the foot of the Montsant mountain range, on the La Plantadeta and Mas d'en Bernat estates. It follows an artisan, traditional style - goblet-trained vines, attention to grape ripeness and sugar/polyphenol levels - combined with more modern fermentation and aging techniques in French and Hungarian oak barrels.
Its wines include Plantadeta Roure (100% Grenache, oak-aged), Plantadeta Blanc (a barrel-fermented blend of white Grenache and Muscat), Plantadeta Selecció (Grenache and Carignan, one year in barrel and five in bottle) and Mas d'en Bernat (a young 100% Grenache red). The La Plantadeta estate also includes olive, almond and walnut trees, producing Arbequina olive oil from century-old trees. The winery does not offer restaurant or accommodation services, but can be contacted for visits at C/ Nou, 6, la Vilella Baixa.
