Cal Batllet - Cellers Ripoll Sans was founded in 2000, when Marc Ripoll restored his family's old cellar in Gratallops to make wine from the vines his family had planted generations earlier. The winery works exclusively with its own vineyards, some over a century old, spread across about ten small plots in the villages of Gratallops and Torroja del Priorat, on the region's characteristic llicorella (slate) soils.
The main grape varieties are Carignan and Grenache for the reds, and Escanyavella, a minority native white variety with thick-skinned grapes, for the whites. Wines produced include Ronçavall and Aubagues (Vi de Paratge), and 5 Partides, Escanya-vella, D'Iatra and Llum d'Alena, most classified as Vi de Vila within the DOQ Priorat quality pyramid.
The winery's approach centers on preserving the family legacy and Priorat's native grape varieties, aiming for intense, characterful wines that reflect the region's harsh, rocky terrain. Visits are by advance reservation, arranged directly with the winery.
