Masdeu i Campos is a family winery in Gratallops, at the heart of Priorat, founded in 1999 by three brothers of the Masdeu i Campos family. They decided to bottle under their own name grapes from their vineyards that had already been highly regarded by the town's most reputed cellars, continuing a viticultural tradition begun by their father, to whose existing traditional vines they added small new plantings of merlot and syrah.
The winery works with varieties such as garnatxa (grenache), samsó (carignan) and cabernet sauvignon, alongside merlot. Its flagship wine, Pedralets, is described as an expression of the essence of Priorat in Gratallops, with an annual production of roughly 4,000-5,000 bottles aged in oak barrels. In the best vintages they also produce Amèlia, a higher-end wine in a very limited run (around 1,000 bottles), dominated by cabernet sauvignon.
The winery's approach has always been to offer honest wines with a good quality-to-price ratio, pushing back on the idea that Priorat can only produce expensive wines: Pedralets has been cited as one of the best value-for-money wines in the appellation and has received recognitions such as a gold medal at Girovi 2008 and scores above 9 out of 10 in the Guia de Vins de Catalunya.
