Mas Martinet is one of the pioneering wineries of Priorat's modern renaissance. The project was started in 1986 by Josep Lluís Pérez and Montse Ovejero, after years spent studying enology and the microclimate and slate soils near Gratallops. Josep Lluís Pérez was part, together with René Barbier, Álvaro Palacios, Carles Pastrana and Daphne Glorian, of the group known as "los Closos" who from 1989 revitalized wine production in the region. In 1996 leadership of the winery passed to his daughter, Sara Pérez, who runs it today.
The estate farms 22 hectares across three single vineyards, dominated by native varieties such as Garnatxa, Garnatxa Peluda and Carinyena, grown under organic viticulture. Winemaking combines stainless steel tanks with first-, second- and third-year French oak (Allier) barrels, following a minimal-intervention philosophy.
The winery's best-known wine is Clos Martinet, regarded as one of the cult wines that shaped Priorat's recent history; they also produce other labels such as Bru de Verema. The winery offers visits and tastings to learn about its working methods amid its vineyards near Falset.
