Celler Prior Pons, in la Vilella Alta (DOQ Priorat), produced a red wine named after the village – "La Vilella Alta Priorat" – a blend of Grenache and Carignan with a high alcohol content (15% ABV), representative of the powerful, concentrated style found in much of Priorat's red wines.
The 2009 vintage was tasted in 2013 by a panel of international critics for World of Fine Wine magazine, who scored it 86 points amid fairly divided opinions: some tasters found it overly hot and alcoholic, while others praised its ripe black fruit, ample tannins and slate-like mineral notes.
The winery was also among the regular participants in local wine showcases held in la Vilella Alta, alongside other village producers such as Mas Alta and Cartoixa de Montsalvat.
