Pradell de la Teixeta: what to see, where to eat and wineries

Pradell de la Teixeta is a mountain village in the eastern Priorat, at about 463 m, with around 180 inhabitants across a municipal area of nearly 22 km², within DO Montsant, with vines, hazelnut and olive trees. It sits on the GR-174 Sender del Priorat long-distance path. It keeps the neoclassical church of Santa Maria Magdalena, begun in 1774 over an earlier Romanesque temple and notable for its unusual octagonal floor plan; nearby lies the railway heritage of the Argentera tunnel and the old Pradell station.

The municipal area also holds a little-known natural heritage: the Lo Rector cave, the Lo Petitot and Rabassó ravines, and the Les Quimeres and l'Arbonès caves, which hold prehistoric remains. The village celebrates its summer festival for Santa Maria Magdalena (third weekend of July), the winter festival of Sant Miquel (the Saturday after 29 September), and hosts the EVA oral storytelling festival on the first weekend of July.

For visitors there is rural accommodation (such as Cal Porxo and Visit Priorat Lodge), a bar-restaurant, a bakery and a grocery store, plus hiking and cycling routes through the surrounding area.
